Kantara Chapter 1 Box Office Collection Day 5: The Kantara Chapter 1 by Rishab Shetty has had a good opening in India, but once the film got off to a great start, it failed to keep the momentum. Although there were good collections on the opening weekend, initial estimates on Day 5 indicate a decline, raising concerns about whether the movie can compete with such big-ticket movies as Pushpa 2 and Dangal.
Kantara opened well with a large number of viewers. The regional collections were Kannada -19.6 cr, Telugu -13 cr, Hindi -18.5 cr, Tamil -5.5 cr, and Malayalam -5.25 cr, which aimed at establishing a good first weekend.
The second day observed a slump in collections, whereby the collections decreased by 26.6 per cent compared to Day 1. The Kannada performance was 13.5 Cr, the Telugu performance was 11.5 Cr, the Hindi performance was 12.5 Cr, the Tamil performance was 4.25 Cr, and the Malayalam performance was 3.65 Cr, which meant it was difficult to maintain the momentum after the opening day.
On the weekend, collections recovered, and the growth was 21.15% compared to Day 2. Kannada and Telugu made contributions of 14.5 Cr and 11.25 Cr, respectively, and Hindi and Tamil amounted to 19.5 Cr and 5.5 Cr, respectively, which is a positive word-of-mouth and growing audience interest.
Further growth came on Sunday, with an increase of 14.55 per cent, higher than on Saturday. It then followed with excellent regional performance with Kannada -16.75 Cr, Telugu -11.5 Cr, Hindi -23 Cr, Tamil -6.75 Cr and Malayalam -5 Cr and the film had a good finish over the weekend.
There is an early forecast of a decrease on Monday, which represents the customary slowdown of weekdays. The movie amassed about 30.50 Cr, which means a decline in the momentum, though a strong performance during the weekdays.
In the first five days, Kantara Chapter 1 has already garnered 255.75 Cr in India alone, which shows that the movie has high appeal, despite the recent decline.
Despite a strong opening, Kantara Chapter 1 bringing its first five-day total to ₹255.75 Cr. By comparison, Pushpa 2 amassed ₹593.45 Cr and Dangal earned ₹155.79 Cr in their respective first five days. The coming days will be crucial to see if it can maintain audience interest and sustain its box office performance beyond the first week.
