Jiostar & Sony
In a major development in the world of cricket broadcasting, JioStar and Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) have jointly acquired the exclusive live streaming and broadcast rights for India’s high-profile tours of England in 2025 and 2026. The deal marks a significant move in the growing competition among broadcasters to gain control over premium cricket content.
According to sources close to the deal, the agreement includes all international matches, including Test, ODI, and T20 formats, during the two England tours. This partnership is expected to bring fans comprehensive, high-definition coverage across both digital and television platforms.
This acquisition is seen as a strategic victory for both media giants. For JioStar, it strengthens its presence in the sports streaming market, building on its growing reputation as a go-to destination for live cricket. For Sony, it reinforces its legacy as a top-tier sports broadcaster with a stronghold in cricket telecasts. As per the deal, Jiostar will stream all matches on JioHotstar, while Sony will broadcast them on Sony Sports Network
Together, the companies plan to offer multilingual commentary, interactive fan engagement features and enhanced viewing experiences to attract a wider audience. With cricket continuing to dominate Indian viewership, the tours are expected to generate record-breaking digital and TV ratings.
The India vs. England rivalry has long been one of cricket’s most celebrated contests. With star-studded squads and competitive matchups expected, these tours are likely to be among the biggest sporting events of 2025 and 2026.
The broadcasting duo is also looking at behind-the-scenes content, player interviews and exclusive analysis as part of the package, aiming to offer fans more than just live action.
This move comes at a time when media rights for cricket are becoming increasingly fragmented and competitive. As streaming platforms continue to disrupt traditional broadcasting, partnerships like that of JioStar and Sony highlight the new era of collaboration and innovation in sports media.
The financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, but industry insiders suggest it is among the largest media rights transactions for bilateral cricket tours in recent years.
